- Every plan, including Free, receives 5 credits per month. Monthly credits do not roll over.

Also works backwards: enter item cost and target profit to get the price you need to charge. No signup, nothing sent to a server. Note the flat $0.30 per order means effective fee rates are much worse on lower-priced items — near 17% on a $5 sale vs about 11% on a $100 sale, which is the argument for bundling.

Worked examples at $5/$10/$50/$200. eBay gives 250 free listings monthly then $0.35 each (600 listings = $122.50); Whatnot charges no listing fees. Covers where eBay genuinely wins (search intent, asynchronous selling, reach, sold comps, and categories like guitars 6.7% and heavy equipment 3%) and where Whatnot wins (lower-priced items, sell-through speed, demand creation). Note Whatnot performs across all price points — the exception favoring eBay is only the rare very-high-value, very-niche one-off. Also covers buyer-side shipping (Whatnot: flat rate in the 1-5 lb band, and once a buyer's combined orders reach 1 lb they keep buying with NO additional shipping cost until 5 lbs — marginal shipping on each extra item is effectively zero; eBay: per seller, per order, seller-configured combined shipping) and the wider format map across live auctions, timed auctions and static listings (Etsy, Facebook Marketplace). Corrects a common myth: Whatnot is NOT live-only — every seller has an always-on Profile Shop of Buy It Now listings purchasable any time, and items can live there without ever appearing in a show. The real difference is discovery: eBay's engine is search, Whatnot's is the live show. Also answers 'is eBay adding live auctions': eBay Live launched June 2022, added auctions ~9 months later (approx 1-minute lots, whole-dollar increments, bids in chat), started in Collectibles and Luxury and through 2026 is recruiting sellers in Fashion, Coins, Trading Cards, Toys and Comics, Electronics, Home and Garden, Beauty and Sporting Goods, plus European expansion. It remains INVITATION-ONLY with reported requirements of prior streaming experience and 4-8 hours streaming weekly, and has no dedicated lane for general vintage, ephemera or glassware — so it is a real competitor to Whatnot but not yet a real option for most vintage sellers. Corrects a widespread misconception: Whatnot DOES have product search — individually listed items surface, both Buy It Now listings and items attached to upcoming shows. Buyers assume it does not because most sellers never list individually, which keeps results thin; that loop is an opportunity for sellers willing to list, who become findable while competitors are invisible between shows. Whatnot listings occasionally appear in Google results alongside eBay listings, though rarely. Key conclusion: the deciding factor is NOT item type but the seller — many sellers have moved entirely to Whatnot with highly searchable inventory (Indiana Glass hen on nests, Viking and fairy lamps, named Pyrex patterns) because collected categories have communities and communities show up live. What actually decides it: can you be on camera repeatedly; do you already have a social following to convert; can you produce a watchable show (lighting, sound, pacing, a second person running items); does your schedule allow reliable streaming blocks; do you want customers or a community. A well-produced show beats eBay on almost anything; a badly produced one loses money in real time, whereas a mediocre eBay listing just sits there costing nothing.
